Welcome to The Plucky Butterfly Designs.
My name is Pam. I am a mom to 3 boys and 1 girl. I was granted one special angel from heaven and he began my journey in learning to sew cloth diapers for him. I then ventured into making clothes for my children. My father was diagnosed with Cancer and was given a min of 2 years to live. During one of our conversations he asked if I could make him something. He said as a father us children never brought home special art and projects just for dads. Made sense, Fathers Day is in June. After I hung up the phone I began making my first ever blanket, an appliqué blanket. While he was going through Chemo I wanted him to know that he was in our hearts and he was surrounded by love. Putting that blanket in the mail meant more to me than I ever thought possible. The phone call that followed was even more touching. We cried together, then laughed.
My father passed away February 5th, 2010. He never made it his full 2 years, but he fought hard. One request he had from me was for me to continue sewing and keep touching lives the way I touched his with my gift. He then asked for me to be sure I placed that blanket in the casket so he could take it to heaven with him. That was a hard thing to do. After seeing that blanket mean so much to him and then it go with him, it hurt. I didn't touch my sewing machine for nearly a year. Then his favorite cousin contacted me. Her best friend was diagnosed with Cancer and she wanted a special blanket for her, like the one I made my dad. That is when the healing of losing my dad began. I cried many tears through that blanket, but sewing healed my wounds.
Every February since losing my dad I did something sewing related for Cancer in his honor. This year, another journey has begun. I have honored every life lesson my dad taught me every year. This year, I am honoring perseverance. For the last two years I have had people beg me to design patterns for the items I create. Finally this year, I did it. What better way to honor my dad than to offer my new pattern I designed solely for a Deaf and Blind girl. I wanted her to feel the love that surrounded her. So this is for you dad. PERSEVERANCE!!
Very touching and meaningful story behind your work! From the blanket for your dad to the skirt for a very special girl! I can't wait to see what else you come out with!
